ABOUT OUR KARATE SCHOOL
Founded in 2022 by Sensei Paul Cote, Kapuskasing Shotokan Karate is committed to teaching the traditional art of Shotokan karate in a welcoming and disciplined environment. Our dojo emphasizes not only physical training, such as strength, coordination, and self-defense, but also the core values of perseverance, humility, and respect.
We offer training for all ages and skill levels, from beginners taking their first steps in martial arts to experienced karateka looking to deepen their practice.
Each class is designed to help students build confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of community.
At Kapuskasing Shotokan Karate, we believe karate is more than a sport, it is a lifelong journey that strengthens both body and mind while fostering character and resilience.

Sensei Paul Côté founded Kap Karate in 2022 with a vision to share his passion, discipline, and values with the community.
His journey began at the age of 12, training under Don Girard, and in the year 2000, he proudly earned his black belt under Sensei Roger Deschamps. He then joined Hearst Shotokan and trained under the guidance of Sensei André Rhéaume.

Sensei Jimmy began his karate journey in 1995 at just 5 years old, training under Sensei Roger Deschamps with the Hearst Wado Kai Club. By the age of 11, he had earned his brown belt. The following year, in 2002, he switched styles and joined Sensei André Rhéaume at Karaté Hearst, where he trained for two seasons.
Then life took him in a different direction. Jimmy stepped away from karate to focus on school, and for 21 years, the dojo was just a memory, until 2024.
In 2024, he returned to the dojo, this time alongside his father, Sensei Paul Côté, at Kap Karate.
After a year of dedication and exactly thirty years after his very first karate class, Sensei Jimmy achieved a lifelong dream: earning his black belt, presented to him by his father.

Sensei Kelly began her karate journey at just 8 years old. From the first class, she was drawn to the discipline, precision, and focus that karate demands.
Over the years, she has worked hard to refine her technique and embrace the values of respect, perseverance, and humility. All that hard work paid off this past May, when she proudly earned her black belt at just 17 years old.
Sensei Kelly believes karate is more than just a sport, it’s a way to stay motivated, to progress in life both physically and mentally, and to inspire others to reach their potential.
